Is It Just Luck?

Can you really influence what happens in your life?
Imagine that you lived in a world where you could influence what happened. Would that give you a sense of control? Would you feel more secure? Would it start to run more smoothly?
Years ago I was on the commuter train into London. We’d only gone through one station when, at the next station, we were all told the train wasn’t going any further. There was a problem with the doors. We all had to pile off. As we waited for the next train, I looked up and down the platform. The platform was full of commuters, 3 rows deep. How on earth were we all going to get on the next train, which I knew would also be full? There was no point fretting; we were all in the same situation!
The train arrived, and I was right; there wasn’t a single seat free. I walked down the aisle to the centre of the carriage. Hemmed in by people all around me, I decided to accept the fact that I was going to have to stand for this 45-minute journey. To amuse myself, I thought I’d observe the passengers. I settled myself in for 45 minutes of observing. Most were men; most were on their phones, and some were on their laptops. No one was talking to their fellow passengers. No one was just being, looking out the window. And there was a heavy silence, apart from the constant hum of the train. Totally immersed in observing, we pulled into the next station, and the man sitting in the seat behind me, got up, and I was the nearest person to get into his seat. I sat for the rest of the journey!
Now, some people may say that was just luck
I was just lucky to be standing at the right place where there was going to be an empty seat. Some people may say it’s a coincidence. But this sort of “luck” has happened to me before. It’s happened several times on a plane. I much prefer a window seat, and I always ask for one. But sometimes this isn’t possible. On one particular flight, there weren’t any, and I had to accept an aisle seat. I told myself it was a short flight, I could manage this and it would all be fine. When I got to my seat, there was a man standing there. “Is this your seat?” he asked. “Yes.” “Would you mind very much if we swapped and you have the window seat? We have a young baby, and it’s easier for us if we’re on the aisle.” “Oh, yes, of course. No problem!”
I do a lot of travelling through a company that organises small group holidays.
I never know anyone in these groups prior to the trip. Most of the trip is organised, but there are the occasional days or part-days which are free for us to do as we please.
On a particular trip, one evening, the tour leader announced there was nothing organised for the following day or evening, and we were free to do what we wanted. The rest of the group had either come with a partner or a friend. I went to bed that night totally expecting that I would be exploring on my own during the day and eating out on my own in the evening. I was perfectly ok with that. I’ve done lots of exploring on my own in foreign countries. So, to spend this amount of time on my own would be fine. I wasn’t going to ask anyone if I could join them. (My Human Design profile is about waiting for the invitation.)
I went to bed with a plan in my head, and comfortable with it. By 9am the next morning, I had received two texts. One was from a couple inviting me to explore the town with them that morning and the other from two women asking me to join them for dinner that night. My day was sorted!
A friend told me her story of being in rented accommodation for much longer than she imagined.
She was starting to get frustrated; her ideal property was not appearing on the market. So she decided to start accepting where she was living. She made it home as if it were permanent, rather than temporary, and started to love and appreciate where she was living. Three months after changing her mindset, the perfect property appeared.
What is really happening in all these situations?
Everything is energy and vibration. Our thoughts have an energy or vibration. And what you give out, you attract back. You could see it as not fighting the situation you find yourself in. You are going with the flow. There is a difference between swimming against the current and swimming with it. The latter is so much easier, and the same occurs in life. I changed my mindset, as did my friend with her home. And the vibration we both gave out was in keeping with what we wanted to attract.
Next time you’re in a situation that is not quite what you would like, try this:
See the situation in your mind’s eye with everything being fine. In all the above examples, I saw each scenario going smoothly, just as it should be. I saw myself sitting comfortably in an aisle seat. I saw myself finding lots to do on the possible day on my own. I planned an itinerary of what to visit so that I had a sense of purpose.
Focus on all the positives of the situation. Whatever situation you are in, there are positives to it. Having an aisle seat allowed me to get up when I chose without disturbing anyone. Spending a day on my own, I was free to do what I wanted.
And lastly, be totally accepting of the situation, knowing that all will be fine and there is a reason why it is as it is.
Then watch how smoothly your life starts to run.
Start with small things.
Have you ever felt frustrated that someone hasn’t answered your call or your text message? Next time this happens, let go of the frustration by accepting the situation and telling yourself it’s unimportant. If plans depend on this person contacting you, make a plan B. Then sit back and see how quickly that person contacts you. It’s a great game to play with yourself!
