Guilt can eat away at your Confidence.....

𝐺𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑡, 𝑔𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑡, 𝑔𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑡.......

It’s that word again……

We’ve all felt it…

There’s the obvious guilt you feel through impulsive actions, not thought through, often driven by primordial instinct.

They usually have short term gratifications.

It usually hurts others.

But then there’s the more subtle guilt that you feel when you put yourself first to improve yourself or your life in some way.

Do you spend the weekend on your own sorting out things that have been holding you back for months and spend some “me time” to recharge your batteries, or do you agree to spend the weekend at your parents’ who have organised a full-on family get together?

Do you go away for the weekend on a course you’ve wanted to do for years, or do you stay at home to help your partner host a birthday party for one of the children?

Do you move on from an unhappy relationship, or do you stay until the children have left home?

Do you, or do you??

They’re all challenging decisions.

Often influenced by the opinion of others who will be affected by your decision.

𝐺𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑖𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 will usually backfire.

Why do you do it?

Because it feels comfortable in the short term.

But...... it will rear its head again at some point in the future.

It may cause regret later in life.

It isn’t aligned with your values causing frustration and resentment.

It only appeases others in the short term.

It doesn’t benefit either you or others in the long-term.

To help you make a decision guilt free, in align with your values, ask yourself if it will result in….

long-term benefits for you?

long-term benefits for others?

no regret later in life?

And....... expect there to be short-term discomfort for others.

𝐵𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑔𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑡-𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒 𝑑𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛s 𝑖𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔.
